Installation Art

There is a new passion that I experienced in 2010 with the idea of installation art. What is installation art? Well, in my world it is a piece that takes up a physical space and is 3 dimensional. In my case not a graphic. Not necessarily carved in stone, but makes a complete statement or lets the imagination draw its own conclusion.

Monotropolis at Burning Man - 8/2010

The piece above was my first one called Monotropolis, but really it was a scaled reproduction of the monolith from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick in 1969. Why choose this? Why take someone else’s basic concept and bring it to the physical world from the movie? It was because it represented peace and evolution to me. It’s relavant to the Burner community because it’s what this Burner culture represents itslef to me.

The awesome thing about this project was that people half my age knew what it was. Even as I set it up a twenty-something couple walked over with smiles knowing the movie from where it came.

The future of my projects is unwritten. Although art may not be my full time future, I am hopeful and gleefully anticipating I can do this with the time I have. Look for more details as they come to life. See the projects linked below for planned projects on the horizon.

Thanks for checking it out!
