Tree of Life*

The premise of this piece is the “Tree of Life” meet the “River Styx” and is a *reboot of the “Final Passage” piece from 2011. Final Passage was seen by me as a failure for composition in 2011 because the message was lost in the budget and unwanted input from a party who did not appreciate where I was really wanting to go with it.

Final Passage Reboot

The rendering seen here is concept only and is made of steel. As the project takes on dimension I will start off with the true vision and make adjustments during the life of the project. This last part is where the project could get lost.

Tree of Life: A Final Passage Reboot

This concept has been in my head since before the original Final Passage piece was put out there. I completely abandoned the first piece for scrap because I was so disappointed in it. I wondered if I could reclaim that metal into another art piece but I really did not have a place for it; storage.

What are the elements?

Imagine the “Tree of Life” meets the “River Styx”

Wikipedia “Tree of Life” – [source]

The concept of a tree of life has been used in science (see tree of life (biology)), religion, philosophy, mythology, and other areas. A tree of life is variously a motif in various world theologies, mythologies, and philosophies; a mystical concept alluding to the interconnectedness of all life on our planet; and a metaphor for common descent in the evolutionary sense.

The tree of knowledge, connecting to heaven and the underworld, and the tree of life, connecting all forms of creation, are both forms of the world tree or cosmic tree, according to the Encyclopædia Britannica,[1] and are portrayed in various religions and philosophies as the same tree.[2]

I left a lot of the wikipedia links about that in the content

Wikipedia “River Styx” – [source]

The Styx (Greek: Στύξ, also meaning “hate” and “detestation”) (adjectival form: Stygian, play /ˈstɪiən/) is a river in Greek mythology that formed the boundary between Earth and the Underworld (often called Hades which is also the name of this domain’s ruler). The rivers Styx, Phlegethon, Acheron, and Cocytus all converge at the center of the underworld on a great marsh, which is also sometimes called the Styx.

The tree will be constructed out of all steel elements and joined by rivets and various mounts. The skeleton will be electrical conduit and a skin of windscreen will be wrapped around the trunk. The tree branches will be made from sheets of stainless draining steel not unlike a colander and wrapped in small and large bubbles creating a strong 3D expression and textures from the top and the bottom.

More to come…
