My Take on WordPress

WordPress and other CMS for building web pages provide the client tools for controlling their own destiny on a web site. Other CMS tools out there that are in demand include Joomla and Drupal.

All of these CMS applications running web pages are used by various major companies for their web sites because of the benefits that come with them. It is a packaged and customizable web site that one can install and build in minutes with the right tools; updated PHP, mySQL database, and more.

This site art23design / aka StudioSK was recently migrated to WordPress like a lot of the other sites managed by myself (Scott K) and enjoy a decent showing when it comes to Search Results and Google ranking. My portfolio site when last checked had a Google Ranking of 1 out of 10. What’s so good about that?

  • First of all StudioSK and gotNurv are not a business and though offer some services to people who need them it is primarily a portfolio site.
  • A lot of people coming to this site are looking at me as a potential employee or are exploring one of my art projects.

Basically WordPress will give you a virtually SEO (Search Engine Optimized) tool to begin building your empire and will improve your visibility.

My Framework Decisions

90% of the sites I have live today are WordPress sites. It is a framework that provides remarkable flexibility and customization. It also comes with tools that snap into place most customers would have to pay a programmer to do through customized scripting.

5% are in a Zend framework that also provides a very distinct order for web development but is good for larger corporate or commercial web sites.

See some of the differences below. The site on the left is hand coded and while the version of the right is the WordPress version and all the bells and whistles that go with it.

You cannot see anything but the surface here, but some things you should notice is there is a stronger presence of social networking tools that work to help build your visibility on the net. You simply cannot plop a web site on the internet with some information on it and not actively work with the site either through updates, blogs, tweets, or other various tools that keep the site updated and relevant.

Keeping your site ALIVE

If you pop over to www.gotNurv.com I talk there about building a network around the identity you are trying to get people to participate in. It’s not just Twitter or making a Facebook, it is actively networking these social tools and reaching out beyond the box. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right tools, but they are out there. Bottom line, the only thing that will keep customers or visitors to your site is by providing clean, well marketed, relevant data.
